One of the dreams of people around the world is to have a car. A perfect dream machine that not only can reduce their commuting trouble immensely but which would also be a tremendous add on to their status symbol. No wonder then that people have always wanted to own this most utility machine. Any new model unleashed sees a virtual stampede and people fall on each other to buy it. Isn't it ironical then that people don't pay much attention to car accessory. The most important element of a car and which goes a long way in enhancing the utility of car. If people give even ten per cent of total attendance to car accessory that they give to car then they can be rest assured that the value of their cars would increase manifold.
A few examples would go a long way in illustrating this point incisively. Take the case of car stereo. A gadget that is instrumental in warding of boredom and fatigue which invariably sets in on long journeys. Similar is the case with car mats. Contrary to public opinion car mats are extremely useful and play a major role in keeping the car clean and protecting it from dust and water.
Similar is the case with car roof box. Another of that utility product that enhances the utility of car immensely. Imagine if one has to shift his residence how hassled he can be, taking care of packing and looking for a vehicle which can transport his belongings to his new place. It feels great to fill up your vehicle with inexpensive, clean, renewable, non-foreign fuel!
Bio diesel reduces pollution up to 90% because it has no sulphur in it and adds almost no carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. Bio Diesel comes from plants that take carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and release oxygen. The plants convert the carbon dioxide to oil so when the oil is burned and carbon dioxide is released, it is a small net increase of carbon dioxide. Because it comes from plants it is renewable. It is also easy on your wallet because it only about $1.50 per gallon to make. The fact that we do not have to buy it from foreign countries is also a huge bonus .
Bio diesel can be used in any regular diesel engine such as cars, trucks, tractors, heavy equipment and even generators without modification. It can be used in any combination with petrol diesel from 100% (B100) to 1% (B1). We usually run B100 in the warm months and B50 to B75 in the colder months to keep the fuel from jelling.
Making your own Bio diesel does take some time and equipment but the process is relatively simple. It is a "low tech" process so almost anyone can do it.
I have always felt that the grass roots public will have to solve this energy crisis. For some reason I do not have confidence that big government, big automakers, and big oil companies will ever solve the problems of pollution, cost and foreign dependence. Maybe it is the fact that they do not want to solve these problems and in fact they have a vested interest in keeping things the way they are, which means unbelievable profits, and/or tax revenues and tremendous power. That is why they want to build a Hydrogen Economy so they can continue to have control over the energy. Whereas, Bio diesel could be done by any number of small producers, which would eliminate the ability of a few huge companies or suppliers to control the energy and the prices.
There is not near enough land available to produce enough vegetable oil for our fuel needs using, corn, soy, rapeseed or palm oil but there is enough land available to produce enough vegetable oil for our fuel need using algae. More on this topic later in our series about Bio diesel.
For now lets see how to make our own Bio diesel.
The first thing that you need to find out is what regulations (if any) your local government (usually County) has on picking up and transporting used vegetable oil. Most smaller counties have no regulations and require no permits. Some of the larger counties do, so check with the Health Department of your county and see if a permit is required and what it takes to obtain one. The other permit that may be required is a processing plant permit.
Check this at the same time. Hopefully there will be none required in you area. If there are permits required you must take this into account when looking at the total cost of producing the diesel. One individual in my county even moved to a neighboring county so he could make his own fuel.
The second step is to locate a supply of used fryer oil. At first this may seem daunting, but as you get into it you realize that there are many sources for oil. Restaurants have been our best source but grocery stores, hospitals, retirement homes, private school kitchens, festivals, large churches that have commercial kitchens, gas stations that sell fried chicken etc. all have oil they need to dispose of.

With gas prices well over $4.00 a gallon and predicted to go over $6.00 a gallon, it was only a matter of time before people started searching for ways to increase their gas mileage. As I was researching ways to increase gas mileage, I learned about a relatively unknown way to significantly increase any car's gas mileage by using water to supplement the fuel with hydrogen for a better fuel burn. However, the idea of running your car on water sounded absurd so I was skeptical about this "simple technology" These are just some of the claims made: Water fuel will enable your vehicle to become at least 40% more fuel efficient. Although some people like to put home stereos in their cars and vans (out of dire need for some sounds), sometimes it just doesn’t work. Yeah, maybe before it could’ve worked just fine, all you needed was radio and a cassette player (or 8 tracks, for the inner dinosaur in you) so sure, lug those big box speakers into the back seat and you’ll be blaring down the highway. But nowadays there are things like cd players and mp3 players and your popup LCD panels and all that techie knickknack you’d think they’d like to build a home theater system right smack on the console of your van. If you don’t know anything about these things but would like to have some sounds in your car anyway, here are some things to know about a car stereo.
As mentioned above, at first units and speakers from home audio systems and professional markets were just simply installed into vehicles. However, they were not well suited to the extremes of temperature and vibration which are a normal part of the environment of an automobile. Car stereo enthusiasts were not satisfied with the sound quality of regular car sound systems, and with the advent of the CD player, they really had to start modifying some of these home stereos in order to work well in a car environment and voila!, now we have the modern car stereo.
If you have a new car, first hand bought, say from about 90 to present, chances are you already have a “factory†car stereo in your car. It means the car manufacturer already included a car stereo system in your car, unless specified in the car model but most often this is the case. Some car manufacturers make their own car stereos, like BMW which includes a pretty decent car stereo package head unit and speakers. It is a standard which comes with all their cars (which isn’t surprising considering that BMW is included in the league of “luxury car manufacturersâ€). Or like Mercedes Benz or Volkswagen, they use car stereo systems from a German audio manufacturer called Blaupunkt.
A standard car stereo (also called a head unit) usually includes an auto-reverse tape deck, a cd player and sometimes the optional changer â€" a device which automatically changes the cd in play. On newer car models, the car stereo can also play mp3s and other digital audo file types like WMA and AAC, whether on a cd or a memory device which can be hooked up to the head unit.
The car stereo head unit is connected to several speakers. Older car models usually just had one speaker mounted underneath the dashboard, pointing through perforations towards the front windshield. The standard for car stereo nowadays is a pair of “tweeters†(used to bring out high treble) on the driver side/front passenger side dashboard, a pair of normal “mid†speakers on both doors, sometimes even the backseat passeger doors if it’s a large car and larger speakers capable of bringing out low ends at the back protion of the backseats.
Your car stereo is probably ok as it is, as car manufacturers ensure that the audio products that come with their cars can handle most dirver’s listening demands. But if you think that what you have isn’t enough, you can always CUSTOMIZE.
